Shubman Gill as a skipper, had a tough day on the fourth day of the fifth Test at The Oval. He had the tough task of rotating and managing his bowlers on what was supposed to be the final day of the series.
Chasing 374 runs to win, England resumed day 4 on 50 for 1 needing still over 300 runs to win the Test match and the series. India, on the other hand, needed 9 wickets. The match was set up for a perfect finish.
However, the day tested Shubman Gill’s astuteness as captain and at the end of the day, he has one more day to fight for his team in an effort to level the series.

Meanwhile, his conversation with Akash Deep was caught on stump mike after he asked the Indian pacer whether or not he took the injection. Gill was worried about his pacer and his query was more for his well being.
This happened after he was struck on his shin from a straight drive from Harry Brook. he winced in pain and was walking gingerly. With Akash Deep taking a hit, Gill continued with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. He asked the Bengal pacer about his injury, as he wanted to bring him back into the attack.
It was a hard day for the Indian bowlers with luck not favouring them during the 195-run stand between Harry Brook (111 runs off 98 balls) and Joe Root (105 runs off 152 balls). Siraj dropped Brook in the fine-leg boundary just before he got to his 100. His runs gave the Indian fans a lot of pain till the moment he was dismissed.

England Need 35 Runs On Day 5, India Need 4 Wickets
India came into the game late on day 4 with the wickets of Root and Jacob Bethell ( 5 runs off 31 balls). Rain played spoilsport in the final hour of the day’s play on day four, propelling the game to move into the final day. Jamie Smith ( 2* runs off 17 balls) and Jamie Overton ( 0* runs off 8 balls) are unbeaten at the crease with England 35 runs shy of a series win. The match is still poised after India's late strikes on day 4.
